MSI Builds

An upcoming release of Spark will include support for MSI installers. MSI is the native installer format for Windows. MSI files can be attached to Windows domains or Active Directory, making distribution of the client much simpler for administrators.

In order to get feedback on the MSI builds, we're posting beta releases. Feedback we're looking for:

• Do the builds work in your environment?
• Do the builds allow for automatic distribution of the clients through domains or Active Directory?
• What documentation is needed to help administrators use the MSI package?

Known Limitations

• The MSI installer technology we're using is not able to compress the Java JRE properly. Therefore, installers that include Java are quite large.
• We're using an evaluation release of the MSI installer until we settle on one to purchase, which means an "eval copy" message will appear when executing the installer.
